13 weeks

October 26, 2010 By Chie

13 weeks now!
I’m counting my pregnancy in American calender here. In Japanese calender, I was 15 weeks when these photo were taken, which was last week. Why 2 weeks difference in American and Japanese pregnancy calenders? That’s because Japanese doctors count the week you start your last period (before you actually get pregnant) as week 1, not counting from the day of actual conception. So Japanese week 1 and 2, you are not pregnant, but for some reasons that’s how they count. Very strange.

Although it’s not really showing in the pictures, and I might be just too self conscious, but last week I started to feel like my belly is getting bigger. I can’t stop touching my belly and look in sideways when I stand in front of a mirror. I gained another 1 kilo in a week, and I don’t know how that was possible, since I ate right and worked out regularly. I was a bit overwhelmed with my changing body..

But the bright side is, I got to go to a maternity fair hosted by a Japanese magazine, called “Nin Sugu“. My friend works for the magazine, so she let us, another friend of mine and her husband in. It was a lot of fun, and we got the photo taken professionally for free (below)!

We got a lot of samples from the fair – diapers, pacifier, caffeine free tea, body oil to prevent stretch marks etc..
There was a booth where your husband can experience what it feels like to be a pregnant. They put you the body (see below) that weighs 5 kilo or so and have you walk around. My husband tried it and it was so funny! I tried it myself too, just to see how it feels like to be 9 month pregnant. and oh boy – it was heavy! I’m whining about my body weight already, but it’s a whole different story if you are 9 months pregnant!

I'm from the US and we count the same way as you do, the first two weeks we really aren't pregnant but it starts from the day of your last period.

Love the picture of you two!

The pregnancy suit is hilarious! Yes, it's uncomfortable but at least it'll be gradual. Then your perfect baby will come and a lot of the baby weight comes off at in the first weeks after birth. 🙂

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!
In Australia, the pregnancy calendar is the same as the Japanese one, counted from the first day of your last period. So, this makes a forty week pregnancy, even though technically the baby is only 38 weeks old!

I'm American, and my pregnancy was also counted from the day my last pre-pregnancy period began.

Yeah, American's count from the first day of your last period. But who cares about counting when they look as cute as you two do? Congrats!

hi! thank you all for your comments! thanks for those who pointed out that the americans count the pregnancy as the japanese! i got confused because in japan, women are pregnant for 10 months as opposed to 9 months! i dont know where the extra month came from.. and i still can't figure it out:(

so i was actually 15 weeks when these photos were taken, not 13! sorry for confusion.

Last Saturday, I got to share that with someone very special.

@designerhelen is a designer from New York who first reached out to me through my little sewing lesson account. When we started talking, I realized we were asking the exact same question: how do you take something with a past, and carry it forward?

We met in person here in Tokyo last December. That conversation became Released. Reimagined.
Two designers. Two cities. One shared belief — that beautiful things deserve a second life.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible team:

💅 Nails: @ms_muse_nail — gorgeous handmade nail designs
💍 Jewelry: @viviange — pieces specially designed to coordinate with each piece
✂️ Hair: @angh0 @sho_kanaida @iam__little__boy — next level editorial

Thank you to everyone who came🤍

Released. Reimagined.

It took quite a bit of wandering to find this venue. Tucked just off a quiet side street from Harajuku’s Takeshita Exit — full glass frontage, light pouring in. The moment I stepped inside, I knew🌱

Right at the entrance, @brownie_shots will be running a pop-up☕︎ The central space becomes our runway. VIP seating going in now.

Less than one week to go. Fingers crossed for sunshine ☀️

It’s May — and yet, fall hues🍂

Warm enough to break a sweat by noon,
then a cool breeze sneaks in by evening🌬️

I kind of love that about this time of year♡

Rich amber and terracotta.
Something about spring light makes these autumn tones look even more beautiful✨

For those cool mornings and evenings,
a silk haori is just right.

紗の着物をほどいて、また縫い直しました。
ざっくりとした夏のの素材感に、
白レースをひとすじ沿わせて。

甘すぎず、でも可愛くありたい日のための一枚。

I want to make clothes you reach for on purpose — not just whatever’s closest🦋✂️

Took apart a vintage sheer silk kimono and sewed it back into something new.

The loose, airy weave of summer, with a single trim of white lace.

For the days when you want to feel pretty — just not too precious.
