Mommy’s Diary: Minnie Themed Second Birthday Party

Last weekend, we celebrated Kiko’s second birthday! I feel old to say that “I have a two-year-old daughter” now, instead of “baby”. Last year, we had “Pink & Piggy” themed birthday party. This year, we had a joint birthday party with Kiko’s friend, Ocean. We met Ocean at church and they happened to share the same birthday in the same year! Ocean’s mom suggested we thoew a joint birthday party with Minnie Mouse theme, and I gladly agreed!

For the party, I made the Minnie Mouse dresses for the girls. It was pretty easy to sew because they are pretty much the same size. I’ve sewn similar dresses in the past, as you can see from here and here. I actually made these in the morning of the party in about two hours because I had been very busy the week before. They fit the girls perfectly. I like that the dresses falls below the knees and the puff sleeves. The party was a lot of fun. It was unfortunately rainy and cold but we enjoyed each others company nonetheless. Kiko took a while to get used to the crowd, but after a while she started talking and enjoying herself a lot. It is hard to believe it has been two years already. I don’t miss her baby time as much since I think she becomes more fun to hang out with everyday. We can converse a little and I like seeing her enjoying activities, like playing with her toys, with her friend Ocean, or simply taking a walk or a bike ride. I am excited for more years to come.

SS13 Leaf Print Dress in Collaboration with Oslo and Alfred

New item in the shop! This dress is from Vivat Veritas SS13 collection, which was shot in March. The dress was made in collaboration to Taren S. Black of Oslo and Alfred. She is an illustrator based in Tokyo, Japan. We first met at the etsy event about year and a half ago. I incorporated her pendants in the AW12 collection shoot, and I loved how it turned out. I heard that she was designing print fabric, I could not resist asking her to collaborate with me. So, we turned one of her prints into a dress!

The dress is made to order, and the colors are available in orange and yellow. The orange one will have solid orange piping on seam lines, and the green one will have solid green piping. There is a cut out/peep hole drtail in the midriff area, but it can be made without the cut out as well.

I love buying small things during my travels to remind myself of the place I visited (we all get souvenirs, right). While I was in NY in February, I met up with Sonja of Ginger Makes at Garment District (more update later on our meetup!). I didn’t buy a lot, but one of the things I bought was one yard of this mint green cotton. The fabric is very soft. It feels like a gauze fabric. I also bought the same color elastic, hoping to launch into making lingerie.

Recently I have been busy making clothes for the customers and just did not have enough time to make things for myself. Then I realized whenever I went out, I am wearing some clothes that I either thrifted or bought at forever 21, which is okay, but I get asked why I don’t wear what I make. I needed to update my own wardrobe to better represent my brand.

I only had one yard of this fabric, so what I could make was limited. I wanted to make a long flowy dress, but I didn’t have enough fabric. So, I used the same pattern as this dress, just added a peplum below the waist band.
