MBFW – Shida Tatsuya Show SS2012

Hi! As I mentioned on Friday, I had a chance to attend Shida Tatsuya show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo on behalf of a Canadian fashion blogger, Marcia. I wrote a detailed review on the show at her blog, so check it out here!  It was my first time seeing a run way show, and it was really exciting! I’ve only seen run way shows on TV, on Project Runway, so you can guess how excited I was to see it for real. It was a relatively small show. I didn’t see anyone famous or maybe I just didn’t notice any, except for Susie from Style Bubble and Misha from Tokyo Fashion Diaries.

My favorite looks were the first few pieces from the show. There was a parka made in white sheer fabric, layered over hot pink tube top or black and white stripes tube top. I thought they were really cute and wearable. My other favorite was a trench jackets, shown in the pictures below.

But then there were some pieces that made me wonder, “What were you thinking Mr. Shida?!” Such as this:

Is that a rug? I’m sorry but this is a pure ugliness…I would not wear it. It is just not flattering unless you are a floor.

Or this one. It is like pattern explosion. And the shape of the clothes…

What do you think? Do I not have the artistic sense to understand high-fashion?

Overall, I had a great time, and I am so inspired. Someday I hope to be able to show my clothes on a runway!

Mini Birthday Gift for Andy

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a nice weekend.  Recently, I wrote about Andy’s birthday weekend, and the gift I got/made for him (DIY liquor cabinet and some of his favorite drinks). I actually had another mini gift for him that I didn’t share in my last post. I was not sure if it’d be appropriate to post this. It’s supposed to be a joke, so don’t be put off..okay?

When we lived in Philly, we would take mini day trips to Wild Wood,NJ during Summer. Wildwood was the closest beach available and Andy loved it because it was his childhood vacation spot. Has anyone else been to Wildwood? What did you think? The beach itself is alright, but the most enjoyable part of WW is walking down the 2 or 3 mile long boardwalk. There are shops selling clothes, food there are carnival games and other fun summer type stuff. During our last couple of summers we began to see stores selling T-shirts and shorts that had the slogan “Mike’s B*tch” or “Randy’s B*tch” or some other man’s name b*tch printed on them. Andy used to say “hey babe you should wear that”.

So, as a good wife, I thought Andy would enjoy it if I made him a pair of shorts. So now I am “Andy’s B*tch”

I had this polo shirt stretch fabric that works well as work-out wear. I made these shorts. Very easy, only three patterns: front, back and waist band. I whipped it out in less than half and hour.

I got the alphabet plate from 100 yen shop, and used it with wash-resistant stamp pad. It turned out that the pattern plate was too thick, and the ink didn’t get to the fabric. So instead, I traced the alphabet on piece of paper, and cut it out using paper knife. Then, I stamp the letters to the shorts and ironed it.


Andy’s Birthday Weekend

My husband’s birthday was last week. We celebrated on Friday, and had a great time! It was the first time that I left Kiko at my parents’ house over night. I was a bit nervous about how it would go, but thankfully Kiko kept her regular schedule and the fist sleep over went well.

I planned the whole night and I am so glad Andy enjoyed it! First I took Andy to a jazz bar in Meguro, called “Tokyo Club“. It was fantastic! If you ever get a chance, I totally recommend this place. The place is small and cozy. The night we went we saw a band called “Antonio band“. They were really good. We loved going to jazz bars when we lived in Philly. We used to go to a few different places but usually to either Chris’s Jazz bar or Ortlib’s. Their cover and food charges were pretty reasonable, especially on Tuesday night at Chris’s ($2 cover!). After moving back to Japan, we were disappointed to have found that live music venues are limited and the ones you can find are quite expensive. Thankfully I found a deal for Tokyo Club!

After that, we went to Roppongi, Tokyo’s famous night district. It felt like it was forever and a day since I went out for an entertainment and then drinks after. The pregnancy, earthquake and baby really halted my social life! It was so much fun, and I was really thankful to my parents who generously agreed to watch Kiko  🙂

I might have written this before, but we usually limit ourselves to buying small gifts for each other’s birthdays. We like to spend more money on doing things rather than buying things. So for Andy’s birthday, I DIYed the liquor cabinet (painted it white) and bought some of his favorite drinks. He also received Golden Grahams and Cinnamon Toast Crunch from his grandma and father as a birthday gift. We cannot buy those cereals in Japan, and they tasted heavenly:)
