Mommy’s diary 5

May 27, 2011 By Chie

The baby is 5 weeks old this week! I had her wear her very first dress last Sunday to go to church. I love this dress, it was a gift from my father-in-law, and if there is an adult version of this dress, I would have totally picked it up! It is so anthropologie-ish. Although, looking at the picture of Sophia Kiko below, she does not seem to like the dress as much as I do…

Last week and this week have been really hectic, as we had family over from the States. We went back to my parents’ house during the weekend, and I was afraid that I would mess up the baby’s schedule, but thankfully the baby was cooperative about her bed time. I’ve been feeling so much better since putting her on a regular schedule and getting almost a full nights sleep.

While I was at my parents’ house, I met up with my high school friends for lunch. One of my friends surprised me with this “diaper cake”! Isn’t it so cute? I still haven’t been able to use the diapers since I don’t want to destroy the pretty cake. This makes a great baby shower gift…next time a friend gets pregnant. I searched some tutorials for diaper cakes online, and I found a couple (here and here in Japanese, here for some inspiration photos in English). What’s so great about this cake is that you can use the diapers! Moms out there sure know that diapers are indispensable, right?! :p

After a few days at my parents’ I came home and was surprised to find a gift from my friend Kaitlyn. The strawberry onesie is made out of organic cotton. It’s a little bit big on her now, bum I’m sure it won’t be for long. In fact, yesterday I had to reorganize Kiko’s drawers since her NB onesies no longer fit. Some of them were only worn once because she grew out of them so fast!

Kaitlyn included a nail polish called “The Mood“, which changes color depending on body temperature. I am wearing the polish now, and it’s pale pink since I’m warm. When I did some dishes with cold water, it turned bright pink. It’s fun! I love taking a little time for myself in the morning  so I can put on nail polish – it’s a small treat for myself:)

Some people asked me if I plan on keeping my hair long or if I will cut it short now that I’m a mother. I find this question kind of strange..my high school friends asked how I can keep the long hair with a baby to take care of, but I don’t think it’s that hard to maintain  long hair with a baby. If the hair gets in the way, all you need to do is to put it up on a bun! What do you think? Did you get a different hair style after becoming a mom?

Back to child raising.  Kiko is fussy and so is Andy so I think I should probably put them both down for a nap.

xoxo Chie

Inspiration: silent sundays

May 26, 2011 By Chie

I’ve been a long time follower of Rhiannon’s blog, Liebemarlene Vintage, ever since I found out about it through her flickr page. I love her girly style, and I’m always looking forward to her outfit posts. She has a really talented young sister, who sells vintage on etsy and also sews (love her sewing saturday series!) Anyway, I just found out about silent sundays, Rhiannon’s new online shop full of vintage and new designer clothing.  Everything in the shop is so lovely…

Interview: FeduLab

May 25, 2011 By Chie

Happy Tuesday! It’s been a bit hectic since my father-in-law and his wife came to visit us here in Japan. They came to see the first granddaughter Sophia Kiko.  They flew in from New York and have been spending time with her as well as taking in the sights! I’m so glad that they are able to see her when she is still a baby, since babies grow up so fast, and I don’t want the family to miss out on this time in her life. We took them all around and were able  to take them to Odaiba over weekend(which they particularly enjoyed), and we stayed with my parents for the past two nights(my parents are much better hosts then Andy and I 🙂

Anyway, today, I wanted to share this really cute shop that I found – FeduLab. I came to know of her blog and shop from a comment she left on my blog a while back. I love her cute Goldfish pin cushion – every sewer needs a cute pin cushion, right?

Besides pin cushions, her shop has all kinds of handmade goodies: make up pouches, totes, felt broaches and coin purses.

Introductions have never been my forte so I will allow her to speak for herself. Below you can read a little about her.

“Born 25 years ago in a small town near Milan (Italy) I’ve learned since I was young the art of sewing and embroidery by Letizia the dear grandmother, seamstress by profession.
Following a brief spell in the marketing world, I found myself sewn to my first love fabrics and buttons and thus FEDULAB, handbags and accessories was born!
The inspiration? Comes from the most simple and everyday things as a walk or a chat with a friend but she also browses the many fashion magazines and the web hopping from one blog to another.”

Make sure to stop by my May 21st shopbop giveaway post  and enter the drawing for the $100 gift certificate.

A precious obi entrusted to me by a client.

I often hear people say they aren't sure how to incorporate their cherished obis into their daily lives. That is exactly why I focus on reading the story woven into the fabric and reimagining it into a design that fits modern living😌

There are hidden details that make this bag truly functional, even if you can't see them at first glance. By attaching the shoulder strap, it becomes the perfect hands-free bag for an active lifestyle👜

The lining of a kimono — often discarded when the fabric is remade into something new.
That soft, lightweight silk felt too good to let go, so I turned it into a summer dress. It needed something more, so I asked artist Riko Monma to dye it for me — and suddenly it came alive again.

I made this piece a few years ago, but for the recent event with @designerhelena, I decided to bring it into the collection. Helen gave me so much guidance on color — combinations I never would have arrived at on my own. The whole preparation process was just really, really fun😌

@allpress_espresso のコーヒーバッグで作りました☕️ Cafés do Bras @allpress_espresso のコーヒーバッグで作りました☕️

Cafés do Brasil

Made from a coffee sack sourced from @allpress_espresso.

Cafés do Brasil — the stamp from its days carrying beans stays right there on the back.

Kimono fabric has always been at the heart of what I do, but I want to bring in more materials with a history — things that have traveled, carried weight, meant something before they became a garment.

A butterfly doesn’t transform alone.

Someone sews, and a shape is born.
Someone paints, and light finds a face.
Someone adorns, and a story stirs beside the ear.

Each gesture layered upon the next —
until one garment spreads its wings on the runway🦋

To everyone who was part of this show 💌

Before the doors opened, there was this. Garments Before the doors opened, there was this.

Garments waiting on the rack. Brushes in hand. Quiet conversations in corners. The unhurried moment before everything becomes a show.

""Released. Reimagined."" with @designerhelen was made possible by so many generous hands — our makeup and hair team, our models, every person who showed up early and stayed late. Thank you for caring for these pieces, and for each other, the way you did.

More to come🤍

Reimagined."" は、たくさんの方々の手によって生まれました。 メイク・ヘアチームのみなさん、モデルのみなさん、早くから駆けつけて最後まで残ってくれたすべての方へ。 本当にありがとうございました。
次回も頑張ります🤍
