Bellows Pocket Tutorial

November 7, 2015 By Chie

Bellows Pocket Tutorial - free sewing tutorial! The last time I made a chambray Archer button up, I modified the original pockets to bellows pockets with flaps. This was my first attempt to make bellows pockets and was surprised how easy they were. You just need to be precise with the measurements and pressing, and the rest come together nicely. I like bellows pockets for the functionality (my iPhone fits in my pocket easily!) and sporty vibe. I took some photos while sewing and here is a quick tutorial on how to make them.
Bellows Pocket Tutorial 1First you need to modify the pattern. Start with pocket pattern without any seam allowances on the sides and bottom. You can keep the top seam allowances as they are (usually folded over twice) but make sure to clip as pictured above to avoid bulk. For sides and bottom, first add for “gusset” width. I added 3cm all around. Then add 1cm seam allowances, so you will be adding 4cm around on sides and bottom.

Fold the top twice, press well and stitch.Bellows Pocket Tutorial 2 Bellows Pocket Tutorial 3 Bellows Pocket Tutorial 4Here is the tricky part. Fold the bottom corner diagonally, meeting the pressed line you made in step 3. It’s similar to making a mitered corner. Bellows Pocket Tutorial 5Bellows Pocket Tutorial 6 Bellows Pocket Tutorial 7Bellows Pocket Tutorial 8Before you pin the pocket to the shirt, I would transfer the line for pocket placement with a tailor’s chalk so you will know exactly where to place the pocket. Bellows Pocket Tutorial 9 Bellows Pocket Sewing Tutorial via Vivat Veritas Blog

Tutorial | Watson Bra Racer Back Variation

August 31, 2015 By Chie

Cloth Habit Watson Bra Racer Back Variation Tutorial

Turn Watson Bra into Racer Back Version!

I’m so excited to share the tutorial for this racer back bralette variation of Watson bra! This is my third attempt to make Watson bra by Cloth Habit. You can see my first (black lace) and second bra attempts(apple print). This time, I made it with white stretch lace and changed the back to be racer back without hooks and eyes. It’s a pretty simple modification and a quick sew! Cloth Habit Watson Bra Racer Back Variation Tutorial (click through for more)

I made the Watson bra regular version (not long line version) but I bet you can make the racer back modification in long line version without problem. Here is what I did:

  1. Make the front version as the pattern instructions state. As I did for my first two bras, I added lining in the bra cups with power net and inserted bra cups so the bra is not sheer.
  2. For the back, instead of using the Cloth Habit pattern, I cut the stretch lace in the same length as the front length. Adjust so that the side seams match. Using french curve, draw a curved line making the center back length a bit shorter than the side seams. I finished the top seam with elastic band and scallop part of the same lace.
  3. For the neck strap, I cut the lace 46cm including 5mm seam allowances. Attach the neck strap to the top of the triangles of the bra cups.
    process1
  4. Here is the step-by-step pictures of how I made the straight line down the back. Cut the same stretch lace for 9cm. Cut two.
  5. Fold the lace you cut in step 4 in half, with right sides facing.
  6. Sew the diagonal line shown in the picture. Trim the seam allowances and press them open.
  7. Sew two of what you made in step 6 together.
  8. Add the elastic band in the center using zigzag stitch.
  9. Now you have the pointy hourglass-ish shape, sew it on to the center of the neck strap and the center of the back.

DIY Flower Crown Tutorial

April 27, 2015 By Chie

DIY flower crown by vivat veritas blog, tutorial

I made a few flower crowns as photo props recently, and was surprised how easy and fun it was to make. Here is a quick tutorial on how I made my flower crowns. It’s fun to think about the flower and color combinations. I do not walk around the city wearing this but these are great for bridal photo sessions or instagram photos.

DIY Flower Crown Tutorial

DIY flower crown tutorial by vivat veritas blog

Material needed:

  • fake flowers
  • plastic headband
  • pliers (to remove the flower pieces from the stem)
  • glue gun

I would get a mixture of flowers in different sizes. I bought two big flowers and one flower wreath, which came with smaller size flowers and leaves.

1. Remove the flowers from the stem, using the pliers. I cut the flower as close to the bud as possible, so it would be easy to glue it on the black plastic headband surface.

2. Here is the picture of all the flower and leaf separated from the stems.

3. Add a small amount of glue on the back of flower, and stick it on the headband. Hold it for a few second until the glue drys.

4. Keep gluing the flowers and leaves until the headband is covered. I left about 2″ without flowers so that you can comfortably wear it. And you’re done!

P.S. You can purchase the crown from here.

Last Saturday, I got to share that with someone very special.

@designerhelen is a designer from New York who first reached out to me through my little sewing lesson account. When we started talking, I realized we were asking the exact same question: how do you take something with a past, and carry it forward?

We met in person here in Tokyo last December. That conversation became Released. Reimagined.
Two designers. Two cities. One shared belief — that beautiful things deserve a second life.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible team:

Released. Reimagined.

It took quite a bit of wandering to find this venue. Tucked just off a quiet side street from Harajuku’s Takeshita Exit — full glass frontage, light pouring in. The moment I stepped inside, I knew🌱

Right at the entrance, @brownie_shots will be running a pop-up☕︎ The central space becomes our runway. VIP seating going in now.

Less than one week to go. Fingers crossed for sunshine ☀️
