Mommy’s Diary: Cat Applique T-shirt and Easy Shorts

July 11, 2013 By Chie

mommy's diarycat applique tshirt

When Kiko was first born, we had more clothes than she could ever wear. Our friends and family generously provided us with many clothes, shoes and hand-me-downs. But now Kiko is a little over two, she obviously has grown out of all of her baby clothes. For the first time since becoming a mother, I am finding that Kiko is low on outfits and I need to make her clothes to wear.

Kid’s clothes’ making is fun. I have a lot of scraps that I am dying to get rid off, and she can basically wear whatever and still be acceptable in public, as opposed to me, I shouldn’t be wearing a dress with elephant an motifs. Kiko is really into animals now like all kids, and she loves pointing at different animals and demonstrating her ability to say the name of them. So I added the little kitty applique on handmade t-shirt that I made out of a non-wearable muslin.

These shorts are made by me too. As usual, I used the scraps but didn’t have enough length, so I added the gingham check fabric as a hem details to cover the lack of fabric.

I think you’re going to have a lot of fun sewing kids clothes 🙂 You can be very whimsical with kids things and you are already a creative person so it will be fun to see what you come up with for your adorable little girl! This is a wonderful age for you to start too, because she won’t grow out of it by next month!

Thank you Kathryn. Yes, you are right, we can go whimsical with kids and they look cute, as opposed to adult clothes!

Hello, God bless. My name is Glenda.

I stumbled upon your blog yesterday and when I saw your blog I felt something special. I didn’t know what it was; I saw that your husband wrote something from the Bible. God knows everything, I was looking for maternity clothes and I’m not even pregnant. I’m only 20 years old. I don’t even know why I was looking for maternity clothes. But God knows everything, and then I saw a photo of maternity clothes from your blog. God has something very special for you guys. He has plans with you all.

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

By the way I love your blog! God has given you a beautiful family. Your daughter Kiko is so beautiful, God bless her. God put it in my heart to keep you and your family in my prayers. Jesus loves you all. God bless you always.

Jesus is coming soon! – I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. Revelations 3:11

[…] Although I was between size 0 and 2, I decided to just cut size 2 because I didn’t mind the shirt fit a bit loose on me. I did not make any modification at all. I was surprised how perfect it fit on me. The sleeve length was perfect. I often find sleeves too short when I buy retail clothes in Japan even for size large, so I was glad. The shirt length is good and covers my lower half which means I can wear it with jeggings as well. I might extend it by, maybe, two inches in length next time so I don’t have to keep tucking in the shirt when I wear it with a skirt.                                                                      {Kiko’s t-shirt made by me, blogged here} […]

Last Saturday, I got to share that with someone very special.

@designerhelen is a designer from New York who first reached out to me through my little sewing lesson account. When we started talking, I realized we were asking the exact same question: how do you take something with a past, and carry it forward?

We met in person here in Tokyo last December. That conversation became Released. Reimagined.
Two designers. Two cities. One shared belief — that beautiful things deserve a second life.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible team:

Released. Reimagined.

It took quite a bit of wandering to find this venue. Tucked just off a quiet side street from Harajuku’s Takeshita Exit — full glass frontage, light pouring in. The moment I stepped inside, I knew🌱

Right at the entrance, @brownie_shots will be running a pop-up☕︎ The central space becomes our runway. VIP seating going in now.

Less than one week to go. Fingers crossed for sunshine ☀️

It’s May — and yet, fall hues🍂

Warm enough to break a sweat by noon,
then a cool breeze sneaks in by evening🌬️

I kind of love that about this time of year♡

Rich amber and terracotta.
Something about spring light makes these autumn tones look even more beautiful✨

For those cool mornings and evenings,
a silk haori is just right.

紗の着物をほどいて、また縫い直しました。
ざっくりとした夏のの素材感に、
白レースをひとすじ沿わせて。

甘すぎず、でも可愛くありたい日のための一枚。

I want to make clothes you reach for on purpose — not just whatever’s closest🦋✂️

Took apart a vintage sheer silk kimono and sewed it back into something new.

The loose, airy weave of summer, with a single trim of white lace.

For the days when you want to feel pretty — just not too precious.
