Mommy’s Diary: New Schedule for the One Year Old

July 26, 2012 By Chie

Now that Kiko is 15 months, we needed to adjust her daily schedule a bit. I wrote about her schedule when she was 3 months here and 8 months here. Unfortunately, no more two naps a day! She used to take both morning and afternoon naps. Sadly, those days are over…we switched to one post lunch nap. Very sad! Anyway, here is her new daily schedule…

7:00am I wake her up or she gets up around this time on her own. Andy and I are get up at 5am, and have a cup or two coffee in us by this time. It helps us to be ready for Ms. Kiko. I feel like I get a lot of things done when I start my day early. On rare occasions when I get to sleep in till 8am, I feel like half of my day has been wasted! But, to the point at hand, I go in to her room and get her ready by changing her diaper and dressing her with new clothes for the day.

7:30am Breakfast time. After that, she helps Andy cleans up the table, and hangs out with us in our living room.

9:00-10:00am Usually Andy takes her out during this time, whether it is a walk to post office to mail sold items of my shop, going to a community center on hot days or rainy days, or a nearby park.

10:00-11:00am This is her morning “alone time”, where she plays by herself in her room upstairs. One of us is in the next room, with the door open, and a baby gate separating us so we can see each other. She likes to play with Duplo’s. Sometimes she gets whiny but we are trying to teach her to relax and play by herself.

11:00am Lunch!

12:00-2:00pm Nap time! By this time, Kiko is really tired and takes a nap without fussing. We take her to her crib. She is getting too big for a crib, but I’m not sure when to switch her to a regular bed. I still think without being caged in she will get up and wonder around when she is supposed to be sleeping. Any thoughts?

2:oo-4:30pm We get Kiko up from nap, and she has a drink and snack. After that, we do some activity depending on the day. Some days Andy takes her out for walk, or I take her out to run errands. Sometimes she plays in her the baby pool.

4:30pm Andy usually gives her dinner.

5:00-5:45pm TV Time – we don’t own a TV, but Kiko watches some DVD on the computer. She likes Elmo’s world.. Some people are surprised that we don’t have a TV. We used to, but we never watched it and it was taking too much space, so we got rid of it. I really don’t miss having a TV. We watch shows on the computer some nights – my current favorites are Desperate Housewives Season 8 and Life Unexpected.

6:00pm Bath time. Giving Kiko a bath or shower is usually my job, unless I’m out for some reason. She plays with fishing toys while I wash myself.

6:30pm Bedtime routine – it includes having a family devotional time, brushing her teeth, lots of kisses and hugs, and reading books. Between 6:30-7:00pm she goes to bed and sleeps through the night!

So this is our typical day when Andy is around. On weekends, we modify the schedule a bit. Andy has a big part in Kiko’s life. He is a great husband and a father! He cooks and does a lot of chores 🙂 We have 2 hours in the morning (5-7am) and 3 hours at night (7-10pm) of adult time to keep ourselves sane and get things done.

Sewing Progress This Week

{Pintuck details on the sleeves for Strawberry Koi Dress}

{Heart in the back!}

{New business cards  using The Ink Nest‘s clip art (I used flower monograms)}

One girl kindly commented on facebook that the poppies in the back might make the look too cluttered. What do you think? I am not a great graphic designer, and welcome any criticism!

{Thread magazines}

{Working on peplum top in star print (similar to the polkadot one here)}

What sewing project are you working on this week? Has your sewing life slowed down as it is summer now?

Shop Update – Build-a-Dress

July 23, 2012 By Chie

Build-a-Dress

Introducing a new feature on Vivat Veritas shop – Build-a-Dress!

I’ve made this dress for a customer using Spoonflower fabric. Spoonflower fabric has too many pretty fabrics! I thought it might be interesting to offer a feature so a customer can create her own custom dress using Spoonflower fabric and choosing one of my dress designs. By the way, Oksansia of Optimistic Art left me a comment the other day to let me know that the strawberry print fabric I used for the dress was her design! So funny! She has many other pretty print fabrics available on her Spoonflower shop – My favorites are this poppy print and fun workout…so cute!

So here is how the ordering process works:
1. Select a fabric from spoonflower.com
2. Select a dress design from the options above.
3. Send me an etsy convo with a link to your fabric choice, dress design and your size (bust, waist, hip and desired length of the dress).
4. I will get back to you within 24 hours with a final quote of the order, with a reserved listing link.
5. purchase the listing and wait for the dress to arrive!

Please note the turn around time of this listing is 4-8 weeks.

If you wore this to a café, you'd definitely stand out 😆☕

A new form of fashion, born from upcycling. A coffee bean sack jacket × a kimono-remake set-up.

Every single piece is finished entirely by hand, from matching the fabric patterns to the sewing itself 🪡🧚 Actually, this kimono has a different fabric worked into the lining too — there's a color that only reveals itself once you put it on ♡

I wanted to give the stories sleeping in vintage materials a chance to become part of someone's everyday life again.

Honestly, I wasn't sure whether to include this piece in this show. It was something I'd made a while back. But talking it through with Helen, we decided to show it together after all.

Working with Helen for almost three weeks to prepare for the show, I learned so much — how to build a collection, how to style looks that engage an audience, how to put together a look as a whole. I don't think I would have made the decision to include this piece if I'd been on my own. Creating something together with someone else really opens your eyes to things you wouldn't see alone.

thank you Helen @designerhelen♡

A precious obi entrusted to me by a client.

I often hear people say they aren't sure how to incorporate their cherished obis into their daily lives. That is exactly why I focus on reading the story woven into the fabric and reimagining it into a design that fits modern living😌

There are hidden details that make this bag truly functional, even if you can't see them at first glance. By attaching the shoulder strap, it becomes the perfect hands-free bag for an active lifestyle👜

The lining of a kimono — often discarded when the fabric is remade into something new.
That soft, lightweight silk felt too good to let go, so I turned it into a summer dress. It needed something more, so I asked artist Riko Monma to dye it for me — and suddenly it came alive again.

I made this piece a few years ago, but for the recent event with @designerhelena, I decided to bring it into the collection. Helen gave me so much guidance on color — combinations I never would have arrived at on my own. The whole preparation process was just really, really fun😌
