Have you ever shopped at ModCloth? I myself have not yet shopped there, but I check their site sometimes because they have a great selection of pretty dresses. I wanted to show you the dress I recently made for my dear friend Naoko, and it is a ModCloth Windy City Dress knock-off. Naoko is a college friend, and not only do I love hanging out with her at thrift shops and fabric shops (Gaffney’s is my favorite thrift store found in the Germantown section of Philadelphia) , but she is also someone that I have a huge amount of respect for. She is extremely skilled with computers and web design. She is the one who made this website. On top of that, she has amazing thrifting skills!
Naoko got this vintage fabric seen below from her friend as a birthday gift and asked me to make a dress. The fabric is quite unique – I haven’t seen anything like it at any of the stores I frequent. It has a 60’s, kaleidoscope somewhat psychedelic feel to it. I was bad and kept delaying production. But I only did this because the fabric is absolutely one-of-a-kind, and I was scared to put scissors to it. But last week, I finally did it.
She wanted me to make a dress that would imitate the neckline of the Windy City Dress, but would not incorporate a waist band.

And here is the result…
What do you think?! I hope I made a respectable knock-off.
