Mommy’s Diary 12

July 14, 2011 By Chie

Thank you for all your responses to  last week’s post about the weight loss issue. I was relieved to know that I wasn’t the only one who felt what I felt, and I realized that I should give it more time. I hid my scale from myself, so I won’t have to worry about being tempted to jump on and check my weight.  Having done that, I’m less worried and enjoying working out more. In fact, I’m attending my first Cross Fit intro class tomorrow morning. I’m excited!

While I was still pregnant, I searched for the perfect baby bag. I kind of liked this nylon baby bag by Marc by Marc Jacobs, but I could not bring myself to spend over $500 on bag made out of nylon. It was also heavier than I expected. I continued my search, but ended up not getting any baby bags. I came to the conclusion that I like leather handbags too much and do not want to carry baby bag that looks too momsy. My friend kindly gave me this diaper bag by Tsumori Chisato, and I put everything I need for the baby in it, and I carry that bag inside my leather handbag.

In the diaper bag (from top left, clockwise): 1. nursing cape, extra formula just in case, diaper wipes, three extra diapers, a plastic bag for dirty clothes, hat, headband, sun screen, one extra onesie and two extra bibs.

Besides the diaper bag, I have in my bag an iPod shuffle, wallet (seriously need a new one! I’ve been using this wallet since I was 19. I’m eyeing this orange Tory Burch one for a while), keys, pen, a note pad to jot down some ideas for new designs, and iPhone (can’t live without it now!). I just realized that I don’t carry any make-up with me. After putting  makeup on in the morning, I don’t really re-touch it afterwards.

Wearing: H&M bustier top, self-made skirt (pattern is available here), thrifted sandals for 50 yen  (about 60 cents!), and Bally bag.

What’s in your baby/diaper bag? Did you get anything special once you become a mom?

it’s really good to see inside your hadbag (haha) I’ve been struggling with the baby bag problem too. I just own so many bags I don’t see the point in buying more :-/ I’ve been thinking about doing what you’ve done and having a small bag for baby things that firts inside my regular handbag. I think when you breastfeed you need less stuff and can get away with it 🙂

thankyou for showing me that it can work 🙂

hi! i hope you are doing well for your last month of your pregnancy 🙂
yes, you definitely need less stuff when you breast feed. i keep the formula in my diaper bag just in case, but most times, i can just take out my breast! :p

now that i am a mom of two, we almost have the same things inside my big bag. a bag that is enough to accommodate things i needed for my children and things for me. wehn your a mom it doesnt matter anymore if u have nothing for yourself in your bag, what is essentials are the ones for the baby. that reminds me to blog about what’s inside my bag…heheh!

oh! i could see that you love tory burch chie. i love that brand too. classy yet elegant.

    cheers for being a mom.

yes i love tory burch…i love that urban city feel of her line, yet so classic!

You’re the cutest, best looking mom, ever! Despite those last 2kg, I think you look fab in your picture…And god job on fitting all your baby essentials in a bag that can fit inside your regular bag. I don’t carry makeup with me either…I don’t touch up after I apply…I just wash it off when I get home. But I like the new wallet you’ve been eyeing! Orange is a fun pop of color!

by the way your baby bag looks so organised and i’m loving the image on the front of your note book!

Neat look into your day bag! Have fun at CrossFit- I started going about five months ago and it has completely changed my body and how I view fitness. I hope you have a wonderful experience with it. I think you look great for such a new mum.

    PS- Little Kiko is adorable!

hi sarah, oh wow, how is your cross fit training going? i went there today, and it was really good! i would love to join, but its very expensive..so im still thinking whether i should do it.

I really hope you can find a way to start going regularly! Having a coach teach you the lifting techniques is important and keeps you from injuring yourself. My coach is a great motivator too! If you have access to some basic equipment ( bars, weights, etc) you can follow along the CrossFit main site- they post a new WOD every day. I’ve even used my little nephew as an extra weight while doing squats and lunges- he loves it!

My training is going pretty well- I’m starting to see some real strength gains and I’ve gotten to be a faster runner. I also love going into the gym and working with the great people there! Best of luck with your fitness endeavors!

You are the best looking and organized new mummy that I’ve met! I fed formula to my son and his bag was a nightmare to work with. I carried a separate bag for him – 2 x diapers, wipes, Avent bottle, formula and some warm water in a thermos. It took up a lot of space and could not fit into my handbag. It took me 2 years to shrink his baby bag into what you currently have now at Week12! So good job there, Chie!!

Have fun over the weekend with Kiko!

hi av, yea i am able to minimize what’s inside my bag since i breast feed, but i wonder how much more stuff i’ll need to carry once kiko starts eating food..any advice?

    hihi,

is the diaper bag a bag-in-bag?

when my twins were younger, we had so much to bring but i cheated by preparing their feeds using very hot water and then keeping the hot milk in a keep-warm bag. by the time the babies need to feed, the temperature of the milk would be just nice so there was no need to pack hot water, cold water, and milk powder separately!

when the twins were about 1 year old, i made them mini backpacks. since then, they have been carrying their own diapers, bibs, and baby snacks when we go out! i only need to carry their water bottles in my handbag so it’s definitely much more convenient now.

i put on like 20kg during my pregnancy and i guess i still have like 1-2 kg more to lose.. but i’m not really sure cos i don’t weigh myself. maybe you should throw away the weighing scale because if the clothes fit and you still look great, what the scale says doesn’t really matter 😛

    have a good weekend!

This silk is so light, perfect for the hot season 🫠

I made these wide-leg pants from a kimono✂️ The thin silk lets the breeze through, and the hem sways softly with every step ♪

The back is made from what used to be the kimono sleeves, so the floral pattern on the hips ends up upside down👻 I wasn’t sure at first, but honestly it grew on me, so I left it as is 🫶🏻

One of a kind, just this one pair. If you’re curious, the link is in my profile ♡

今回「Released. Reimagined.」

Helen x Vivat Veritas

A silk dress I made a few years ago.

For this ""Released. Reimagined."" concept, I asked @redyeingproject to dye it black.

This collaboration grew out of a connection made when he joined the Helen x Vivat Veritas event as a vendor.

""Before you throw it away, consider black dyeing.""
His concept — reviving faded clothes through by-the-gram redyeing — really resonated with me.

The silk skirt, a natural fiber, transformed into a deep, beautiful black.
The chantilly lace took on a subtly greenish tone.

A small choice, in service of wearing one piece for longer.
Take a look at the before/after photos🩷🖤

If you wore this to a café, you'd definitely stand out 😆☕

A new form of fashion, born from upcycling. A coffee bean sack jacket × a kimono-remake set-up.

Every single piece is finished entirely by hand, from matching the fabric patterns to the sewing itself 🪡🧚 Actually, this kimono has a different fabric worked into the lining too — there's a color that only reveals itself once you put it on ♡

I wanted to give the stories sleeping in vintage materials a chance to become part of someone's everyday life again.

Honestly, I wasn't sure whether to include this piece in this show. It was something I'd made a while back. But talking it through with Helen, we decided to show it together after all.

Working with Helen for almost three weeks to prepare for the show, I learned so much — how to build a collection, how to style looks that engage an audience, how to put together a look as a whole. I don't think I would have made the decision to include this piece if I'd been on my own. Creating something together with someone else really opens your eyes to things you wouldn't see alone.

A precious obi entrusted to me by a client.

I often hear people say they aren't sure how to incorporate their cherished obis into their daily lives. That is exactly why I focus on reading the story woven into the fabric and reimagining it into a design that fits modern living😌

There are hidden details that make this bag truly functional, even if you can't see them at first glance. By attaching the shoulder strap, it becomes the perfect hands-free bag for an active lifestyle👜

The lining of a kimono — often discarded when the fabric is remade into something new.
That soft, lightweight silk felt too good to let go, so I turned it into a summer dress. It needed something more, so I asked artist Riko Monma to dye it for me — and suddenly it came alive again.

I made this piece a few years ago, but for the recent event with @designerhelena, I decided to bring it into the collection. Helen gave me so much guidance on color — combinations I never would have arrived at on my own. The whole preparation process was just really, really fun😌
