VV Wedding:: Soft Tulle Dress and Tuxedo

October 28, 2013 By Chie

Photo1

It was great to see the customer in the wedding dress I made! I was invited the wedding party of my customer. As I wrote before (here and here) , Chie and I got the chance to produce the bride’s dress and the groom tuxedo.

Marie and Takashi Wedding by Vivat Veritas, Made by Rina Photo3

They looked so awesome in the garments. It is hard to explain how happy I was when I saw the couple together!

They already had an official wedding ceremony a few days ago in Kyoto. They set this party at a restaurant in Tokyo, since they currently live near Tokyo and have many friends there.

Japanese brides usually rent a dress for the wedding ceremony, which is expensive, 2000-4000US dollar on average. It isn’t uncommon that they have to pay additional charge to wear the dress outside of the place of wedding ceremony, because the rental dress makers are sometimes attached to ceremony places.

I don’t really like this kind of Japanese system. I think the wedding style should be more flexible to each bridal couple. So I’ll try to keep making dresses what customers want with fair price.

I hope I could have contributed toward having their happiness (:

Charity Craft Show in Yokohama

October 20, 2013 By Chie

craft show decoration copyThis weekend, I visited my friend, Taren of Oslo and Alfred at the Charity Craft Show in Yokohama. Taren is an American illustrator based in Tokyo, and she and I collaborated to make the feather print dress for my SS13 collection. It was held at a place called Imperial Gallery in Motomachi, Chukagai, which means Yokohama China town. Taren and other crafters hosted a show on October 19th and 20th, 2013 and part of their revenue will go toward the people in Northern Japan, where a lot of damage occurred during the earth quake. craft show jewelry

Pretty vintage-inspired jewelry. I picked one up for myself (the necklace on the far left).halloween decor jewlery at craft show nathanLive music (classical guitar)  outside of the gallery by Nathan, Taren’s husband!

Japanese Sewing Books:: Feminine Wardrobe and Sweet Dress Book

October 18, 2013 By Chie

japanese books by vivat veritas

Andy’s grandmother surprised me with these two new Japanese sewing books (translated in English) the other day. They are Feminine Wardrobe (much detailed review here) and Sweet Dress Book. I did not request these particular books to grandma, so I am astounded by her good selections. As many Japanese sewing books, the styling of these books are minimalistic and quiet yet very pretty. I find Japanese sewing patterns to be less fitted and in baggier silhouette than I want my clothes to be, but they are pretty to look at. Here are some of my favorites from the books:japanese sewing book feminine wardrobe1 ll vivat veritas

A blouse with big bow, can be worn it in two ways.

Asymmetric skirt with bold floral print. I love the fabric more than anything here.

I’ve seen layered sleeves like this in BCBG SS14 runway. I am not big fan of the fit of the blouse here, but there is a possibility with these layered sleeves. japanese sewing book feminine wardrobe4 ll vivat veritas Love the fact that there is a cupcake recipe randomly placed in the middle of the book! So cute.

A butterfly doesn’t transform alone.

Someone sews, and a shape is born.
Someone paints, and light finds a face.
Someone adorns, and a story stirs beside the ear.

Each gesture layered upon the next —
until one garment spreads its wings on the runway🦋

To everyone who was part of this show 💌

Before the doors opened, there was this. Garments Before the doors opened, there was this.

Garments waiting on the rack. Brushes in hand. Quiet conversations in corners. The unhurried moment before everything becomes a show.

""Released. Reimagined."" with @designerhelen was made possible by so many generous hands — our makeup and hair team, our models, every person who showed up early and stayed late. Thank you for caring for these pieces, and for each other, the way you did.

More to come🤍

Reimagined.""

From a chaotic atelier to the runway.

Before a collection comes to life, there are floors buried under fabric, pattern pieces, and countless hours of trial and error.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible models who breathed life into each look, and to every member of the team who made it all possible 💝

Last Saturday, I got to share that with someone very special.

@designerhelen is a designer from New York who first reached out to me through my little sewing lesson account. When we started talking, I realized we were asking the exact same question: how do you take something with a past, and carry it forward?

We met in person here in Tokyo last December. That conversation became Released. Reimagined.
Two designers. Two cities. One shared belief — that beautiful things deserve a second life.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible team:

Released. Reimagined.

It took quite a bit of wandering to find this venue. Tucked just off a quiet side street from Harajuku’s Takeshita Exit — full glass frontage, light pouring in. The moment I stepped inside, I knew🌱

Right at the entrance, @brownie_shots will be running a pop-up☕︎ The central space becomes our runway. VIP seating going in now.

Less than one week to go. Fingers crossed for sunshine ☀️

It’s May — and yet, fall hues🍂

Warm enough to break a sweat by noon,
then a cool breeze sneaks in by evening🌬️

I kind of love that about this time of year♡

Rich amber and terracotta.
Something about spring light makes these autumn tones look even more beautiful✨

For those cool mornings and evenings,
a silk haori is just right.
