Mommy’s Diary 57: Ueno Zoo

On the 4th of July, my friend, her daughter, Kiko and I went on a little date to Ueno Zoo. It is right near the JR Ueno station and the entrance fee for adults is 600 yen, which is pretty reasonable. It was great to have Kiko run around at the zoo, where I did not have to worry about cars and other similar dangers. Although she still calls every moving animal “wan wan” (doggie in Japanese), I think she had a good time.

Thank you for all the advice and comments on “terrible two” post last week! She has been a bit better this week. I should celebrate that she is in this new stage, since she is growing and it is necessary for her develop accordingly.

Mommy’s Diary – Wait!

People say babies grow up too quick, but I must admit I wished that Kiko grew up sooner while I was getting up to feed her in the middle of the night. But now she is 9 months old, I am saying the same thing… babies, especially my baby is growing up too fast!

Last week I organized Kiko’s clothes that no longer fit her. I separated them in three boxes, and labeled them “newborn” and “3-6 months”. As I was folding her newborn rompers, I got teary, realizing how tiny she was. In order to hold on to the memory a bit longer, I hung some of my favorite dresses of hers which no longer fit her on the wall.

I am conciously trying to adapt to her changes as she grows up. I try not to baby her too much as she is more able now and wants to do things herself. She is going to be one year old in less than 3 months…

I am thrilled to see her grow and mature and would not change it for a moment, but still a tinge of  loss hits me from time to time.

Mommy’s Diary 37: Taking a Break

For the past 9 months, since Kiko was born, I never felt the need for a break. Andy has helped me take care of Kiko a lot and for that reason I haven’t felt as though I needed to get out and be by myself.

But recently, I’ve started to go out by myself ocassionally after putting Kiko to bed and it has been really really nice. It’s not like I do anything major when I’m out. First time I went out, I window shopped, drank high ball in a train ( I’m a rebel!) and ate gyudon (cooked beef on top of rice). The day before yesterday I went to a diner and read “Hunger Game”. I was only out about 2 hours but it was s great refresher. I was back home, happy and eager to see my family.

The best part is that this little excursion is guilt free. I get going after putting the baby to bed. How do you take a break?
