6 DIY Fashion Projects for Scarves by Stacie of Scarves Dot Net

April 26, 2012 By Chie

Hello everyone! I’m Stacie, a DIY fashion blogger over at Stars for Streetlights, and I am so excited to be posting for Chie today while she is away! I have always loved making things and sewing ever since I was a little girl– and things haven’t changed much now that I’m older. One of my favorite things to refashion has to be scarves.

During the day, I am a writer, blogger, and photographer over at Scarves Dot Net, and it is pretty much the best job ever. (Seriously, I get to think about scarves all day!) I’m always looking for new ways to tie, sew, craft, and wear scarves– and because the’yre essentially giant pieces of pretty fabric. 😉 Here are a few of my favorite DIY projects for scarves. 🙂

DIY scarf belt DIY Scarf Belt: Skinny scarves make wonderful belts if you have any sitting around. To make this DIY accessory, I used this leopard print scarf, but you can use any print to spice up an outfit. (I am a big fan of chevrons right now.) 🙂
scarf camera strap DIY Scarf Camera Strap: I’m a huge photography nerd but I can never find a cute camera strap. (Does anyone else have that problem?!) Silk is one on of the strongest fibers in the world, so I decided to make a camera strap from a silk scarf. 🙂
scarf purse DIY Scarf Bag: Need a quick bag on the go? Try making one out of a scarf! Aimee from Swellmayde uses a cute trick she found on a Hermes knotting card to make a chic and functional purse from a scarf.
quote scarf DIY Quote Scarf:Have a favorite quote that you’d like to carry with you all the time? Try writing it out on a scarf! My friend Maggie, wrote out her favorite Andy Warhol quotes on this scarf. (She had about 6 of them. She even tried to write in Andy Warhol’s handwriting!) 🙂
Scarf Purse Strap: Have a broken or purse strap? Try using a scarf instead! This simple fix can give an old bag a longer life. 🙂
scarf flats DIY Scarf Shirt: To make a simple and flowy scarf shirt, just gather two square scarves and stitch them together!

If anyone has more DIY scarf ideas or any fresh scarf-tying tutorials, be sure to head over and check out our Scarves Dot Net “Submit” page! We’d love to feature any new approaches to scarves. And if you’re ever looking for ways to tie a scarf, be sure to check out our “Knot Library” with tons of ideas!

I just want to say thank you again to Chie for letting me guest post today, it has been an honor! 😉

Sarah’s Handmade Wedding

November 29, 2011 By Chie

Pictures from Sarah, see more photos and her testimonial here!

A while back, I had a pleasure of working with Sarah from Tulle and Trinkets . I was asked to make the bridesmaid dresses for her wedding. She had her wedding a couple of months ago. I love her wedding photos so much and the handmade feel of the wedding. She mentioned that she purchased some handmade items from etsy besides the bridesmaid dresses, or handmade them her self, so I was curious to know more about it. She kindly wrote to me with the sources of items she bought for her wedding to share on my blog.

Here is Sarah 🙂

I was really pleased with everything I purchased from Etsy. All of the sellers were really quick, responsive, and willing to personalize and tailor things to fit our wedding. All the Etsy items gave our wedding a very handmade feel, which is exactly what I wanted. And they also made our wedding unique.

This was taken at our ceremony. The tissue paper pom poms I purchased from Fiesta Pom Pom

My mom and I made these pennant banners that lined the chairs at our ceremony.
My cousin designed our programs. They were fan programs (even though it was kind of chilly on the wedding day!) I tied in the ribbon and pennant banner themes with them.
I tied blue and yellow ribbon on the back of our parents’ and grandparents’ chairs to designate their reserved seats. They were really whimsical and pretty!
Another shot of the pom poms.
This milk glass chalk board was from Shabby McFabby. It sat on our card table (I used an antique hat box for cards).
The yellow rosettes on the bridesmaid dresses were from Hooey Designs. I thought their shade of yellow complemented the color of the bridesmaid dresses beautifully!
I wanted something different for our guest book. Our guest book from Paper Twig was a hand drawn tree that guests put their finger prints on. We plan to get it matted and framed!
This small pennant banner was on the front of our cake table. Heckle is my new last name 🙂 I got it from Crazy Husky Crafts. It now hangs in our apartment!

This large “Just Married” pennant banner hung across the head table. It’s also from Crazy Husky Crafts.
My bracelet (which is SO pretty!) is from All Things Tinsel. My garters were from Garter Lady.
 Another shot of my bracelet.

Guest Post by Maddie Edwards

October 18, 2011 By Chie

Today, I have a guest blogger, Maddie Edwards talking about the fall fashion! Here is Maddie 🙂

With the fall season now officially underway, fall fashion trends are beginning to become clear. Of course, there are certain characteristics of fall fashion that don’t tend to change too much year-to-year. For example, it is common for sweaters and light jackets to become more popular in the months of October and November, simply because the weather tends to cool to some extent in most of the world. Additionally – to match the cooling weather and shortening, darker days – we tend to see more of the darker colors (greys, blacks and browns) during the fall. However, there are also some fall trends that come and go in different years.

This fall, for example, light blouses and flowing materials (such as silk) seem to be in style. This makes plenty of sense, as a long-sleeved but lighter material is ideal for weather that is turning cool but is not quite cold. So, with this in mind, you might want to avoid tighter or bulkier clothing this fall. Additionally, there are a few different collections that are offering a number of pink clothing options this fall, so as to infuse a bit of color into fall style this year.

A good example of a fashion designer carrying clothing that fits the above listed trends is the DKNY collection for women, which can be found on my-wardrobe.com. This collection features a number of different types of clothing, from pants and leggings to blouses and jackets, and coincides quite well with most of the fall fashion trends you have probably been observing in the last month. For example, DKNY is offering a number of “flowing,” silky blouses in white, grey and black, all of which should be quite tasteful for the coming season. Additionally, DKNY seems to be on board with the idea of adding a bit more color to its fall collection, as it is currently featuring a few separate pink, red and blue options that are all bright, but not overstated.

Of course, it may be that you have already decided on your fall fashion for this year. However, if you are still working on figuring out what you will be wearing in the coming months, the trends and styles listed above should help to give you some indication of what fashion-conscious women will be wearing this year. Specifically, the DKNY collection can be a great place to start for women who have not yet filled out their autumn wardrobes. With a number of options that are both trendy and unique, this collection would seem to have just about anything that you could want this time of year.

Last Saturday, I got to share that with someone very special.

@designerhelen is a designer from New York who first reached out to me through my little sewing lesson account. When we started talking, I realized we were asking the exact same question: how do you take something with a past, and carry it forward?

We met in person here in Tokyo last December. That conversation became Released. Reimagined.
Two designers. Two cities. One shared belief — that beautiful things deserve a second life.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible team:

Released. Reimagined.

It took quite a bit of wandering to find this venue. Tucked just off a quiet side street from Harajuku’s Takeshita Exit — full glass frontage, light pouring in. The moment I stepped inside, I knew🌱

Right at the entrance, @brownie_shots will be running a pop-up☕︎ The central space becomes our runway. VIP seating going in now.

Less than one week to go. Fingers crossed for sunshine ☀️

Warm enough to break a sweat by noon,

I kind of love that about this time of year♡

Rich amber and terracotta.
